Resfeber Tales Decoded

As kids we used to often take this Summer road trip from Gujarat to our grandma’s house in Kanyakumari. Being the younger one, I usually was made to sit at the back of the car along with the luggages. The scenic Konkan stretch always made my jaw drop in awe! These trips I think were the inception point of my fascination with the idea of being on the roads, travelling and exploring new places and meeting new people.

And once we used to come back home, to the same old routine, I used to find solace in my travel notes. And I noticed that it wasn’t just me…whoever read or listened to those stories found that instant connection. That’s when I realised that every human heart aches for the unknown and the unexplored.

Year after year, the travel notebooks started to pile-up and I decided to go digital.

Few years back when I finally decided to have my own blog site, one of the things that I was stuck at was deciding on the name. I don’t know how many evenings with friends and family were spent on this or how many cups of tea and coffee did I consume discussing this or how many bottoms-up sessions I had hoping that I will find the answer at the bottom of the beer bottles!

One fine day, one of my colleagues came up with a few fancy travel related words and that’s where this one word clicked with me.

Resfeber (n.)

Origin: Swedish

Definition: The restless race of the traveller’s heart before the journey begins, when anxiety and anticipation are tangled together.

And that’s the feeling I have everytime that I pack a bag or when I am about to board that bus/train/flight. The excitement of experiencing the unknown and the unexplored floods the heart and mind all at once. It creates that overwhelming mix of emotions that often leaves me speechless with a cute-creepy smile on my face!

I try to express this feeling in the best way possible in my write-ups and I hope that it inspires people to travel more, live a lil more and experience resfeber!

For those of you who are reading this, I thank you from the bottom of my heart! From one travel addict to the other – I hope you never stop exploring!

Happy Travelling!
